Chapter 5 - THE WOMAN WHO READ EVERYTHING

Norah began keeping two sets of notes.
One contained the official documents.
The other contained discrepancies.
Different company names.
Changed dates.
Missing attachments.
Signatures placed on pages Arthur had never heard read aloud.
She did not accuse anyone.
Not yet.
Instead, she asked questions.
Careful questions.
The kind people underestimated because they came from a woman wearing thrift-store shoes.
Within two weeks, she found seven suspicious documents.
All prepared through Adrian Bell's office.
All involving transfers of assets.
All approved after Arthur lost his sight.
Norah showed Vincent.
His face drained.
“This can't be right.”
She pointed at the documents.
“Then explain it.”
Vincent stared.
“I can't.”
Norah looked toward Arthur's office.
“Does he know?”
“Some of it.”
Vincent swallowed.
“But not enough.”
Norah nodded.
“Then we need someone independent.”
Vincent looked at her.
“Arthur won't trust an outsider.”
May you like
Norah considered that.
“Then he needs to learn.”
