Chapter 10 - THE ASSISTANT WHO DISAPPEARED

Norah disappeared on a Thursday evening.
She had left Cornero Tower at six.
She never reached her apartment.
Her phone was found near a parking garage.
Her canvas bag lay beside it.
Inside were her keys.
Her wallet.
And a folded copy of the suspicious contract.
Arthur learned about it at 8:17 P.M.
Vincent entered his office.
His voice shook.
“Arthur.”
Arthur turned.
“What?”
“It's Norah.”
Silence.
“What about her?”
Vincent swallowed.
“She's missing.”
Arthur stood so quickly his chair crashed backward.
“Find her.”
Vincent hesitated.
“Security is already searching.”
Arthur's voice became deadly calm.
“Then search harder.”
He reached for his cane.
Vincent moved closer.
“Arthur—”
“Don't.”
Arthur's expression hardened.
“Don't tell me to sit down.”

He turned toward the door.
For the first time since the explosion, Arthur Cornero left his office without waiting for someone to lead him.
