Chapter 7 - THE NIGHT NORAH WAS FOLLOWED

Norah noticed the gray sedan on a Thursday.

It was parked outside Benny's when she finished her shift.

The same car appeared near her apartment.

She stopped walking.

Her heart pounded.

Then her phone vibrated.

Unknown number.

Tell Hayes to stop investigating.

Norah stared.

She called Gabriel.

He answered immediately.

“Norah?”

“Someone is following me.”

His voice changed.

“Where are you?”

She gave him the intersection.

“Stay somewhere public. I'm calling the police and sending someone to meet you.”

Norah entered a twenty-four-hour pharmacy.

Ten minutes later, Leo arrived.

He didn't touch her.

Didn't order her into a car.

He simply said:

“Gabriel asked me to make sure you're safe. The police are on their way.”

Norah nodded.

For the first time, she understood that Gabriel's world had reached into hers.

And she didn't like it.

When Gabriel arrived, she looked at him.

“This has to stop.”

He nodded.

“I know.”

“I have a life.”

“I know.”

“I didn't agree to become part of your war.”

Gabriel looked down.

“No. You didn't.”

His voice softened.

“I'm sorry.”

Norah stared.

May you like

The apology surprised her.

Because it sounded real.
