Chapter 11 - THE MAN WHO WALKED AWAY FROM POWER

Gabriel began dismantling the criminal side of his organization.
It wasn't simple.
There were contracts.
Debts.
Dangerous men.
And years of wrongdoing that couldn't be erased with a signature.
He hired independent attorneys.
Cooperated with investigators.
Separated legitimate businesses from criminal operations.
He accepted that accountability might cost him money, influence, and freedom.
Norah watched from a distance.
She didn't congratulate him for doing what he should have done years earlier.
But she noticed the effort.
One evening, Gabriel visited Benny's.
He ordered soup.
Norah smiled.
“Getting adventurous?”
He laughed.
“Apparently.”
She sat opposite him.
“How are you?”
He considered.
“Scared.”
She looked surprised.
“Of what?”
“Of finding out who I am without the empire.”
Norah smiled gently.
“Maybe that's the first honest question you've asked yourself.”
May you like
Gabriel nodded.
“Maybe.”
