Chapter 6 - The Mother-in-Law’s Arrogance Shattered

At 11:45 PM, four marked police cruisers and an unmarked Special Assault Unit SUV pulled up to Victoria Vance’s estate in Oakridge.
The heavy wrought-iron gates were forced open by judicial order. Detective Stone, accompanied by six armed deputies, walked up the stone steps and pounded on the double doors.
Victoria opened the door in a silk dressing gown, flanked by her private attorney, Arthur Montgomery.
“What is the meaning of this barbarian behavior?!” Victoria shrieked. “Mr. Montgomery, instruct these officers to leave my property!”
Detective Stone held up an active arrest warrant signed by Chief Magistrate Judge Harrison.
“Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for Felony Assault of a Child in the First Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment, and Criminal Child Labor Exploitation.”
Victoria’s attorney quickly scanned the warrant and the attached audio transcripts. His face went pale. He slowly closed his briefcase, stepped back two paces, and lowered his head.
“Mr. Montgomery!” Victoria screamed, reaching for his arm. “Do something!”
“Mrs. Vance,” the attorney muttered nervously, “the state has your recorded confession and the medical trauma reports. I advise you to remain silent.”
Two female deputies stepped forward, twisted Victoria’s manicured arms behind her back, and snapped heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.
“Take your hands off me! I am a Vance!” Victoria howled, thrashing against their grip as her silk slippers dragged through the wet gravel. “Clara! You ungrateful little bitch! I will have you ruined for this!”
