Chapter 12 - THE NIGHT CASTELLANO MANOR WENT DARK

The attack came during a storm.
The power failed at 10:17 p.m.
The manor plunged into darkness.
Rosa called from the hallway.
“Mr. Castellano?”
Adrian stood immediately.
I was in the music room.
Holding the cello.
Then I heard glass breaking downstairs.
My heart pounded.
Footsteps.
Shouting.
A security alarm.
Adrian appeared at the doorway.
“Evelyn.”
I turned.
“What's happening?”
“Someone entered the property.”
I froze.
He held out his hand.
“Come with me.”
I hesitated.
Then followed.
We moved through the hallway.
Adrian knew every turn.
Every doorway.
Every step.
I thought it was because he'd memorized the house.
Then lightning flashed through the windows.
And I saw him look directly toward a figure at the end of the corridor.
Not vaguely.
Not by sound.
Directly.
He moved in front of me.
“Stay behind me.”
The intruder fled when security arrived.
But I barely noticed.
Because I was staring at my husband.
“Adrian.”
He turned.
May you like
I whispered:
“You can see.”
