Chapter 3 - The Secret in the Nursery Camera

At 11:15 PM, the private library on the ground floor was transformed into an operational crisis command center.
Lily sat on an oversized velvet armchair, wrapped in a warm cashmere blanket, sipping warm honeyed milk while Dr. Eleanor Vance—chief of pediatric medicine at Cedars-Sinai—gently examined her wrists, back, and ribs for contusions.
Beside Lily, the gray cat Ash lay curled up on a soft velvet cushion, licking a bowl of warm cream, completely calmed.
“No bone fractures, Edward,” Dr. Vance reported with immense relief. “Minor soft-tissue bruising along her lumbar spine from the impact on the sofa frame, and elevated stress-induced cortisol. But she needs rest and complete psychological security.”
Edward placed a gentle, calloused hand over Lily’s head, watching her eyes grow heavy with sleep.
Once Lily drifted off under the watchful care of the private pediatric nurse, Julian Hayes—the chief corporate trial litigator for Montgomery Capital—stepped to the mahogany desk.
Julian plugged an encrypted drive into the master monitor.
“Edward,” Julian began gravely. “When you hired our private digital forensic team three weeks ago after Lily mentioned Victoria’s ‘special friend,’ we activated the secondary architectural surveillance sensors in the nursery wing.”
Julian pressed play.
The 85-inch monitor illuminated with crystal-clear 4K footage timestamped over the past fourteen days:
Timestamp Day 4: Victoria violently snatching Lily’s sketchbook and ripping it to shreds because Lily drew a picture of a man named ‘Julian’ sitting in Mommy’s sports car.
Timestamp Day 9: Victoria cornering the five-year-old in the hallway, hissing into her face: “If you say a single word to your father about our trips to Malibu, I will throw your cat into the swimming pool!”
Timestamp Today (8:45 PM): Victoria receiving the emergency discovery summons from the divorce court, screaming, grabbing Lily by her shoulders, and violently hurling the five-year-old onto the furniture while smashing the whiskey glass against the floorboards.

Edward’s hands curled into iron fists on the desk, his knuckles turning pure white.
“She threatened my daughter in my own house,” Edward whispered, his voice vibrating with lethal stillness. “While living off my blood and my name.”
