Chapter 5 - THE HUSBAND WHO FINALLY OPENED HIS EYES

Dominic confronted Aldo before sunrise.
His uncle sat in the study, drinking espresso.
He looked up.
“Dominic.”
Dominic placed the hospital document on the desk.
“What is this?”
Aldo glanced at it.
Then went still.
“Where did you get that?”
Dominic's voice was quiet.
“Answer me.”
Aldo looked away.
“It's complicated.”
Dominic stepped closer.
“Did my daughter die?”
Silence.
“Uncle.”
Aldo closed his eyes.
“No.”
The room seemed to tilt.
Dominic gripped the desk.
For eleven years, he'd visited a grave.
For eleven years, he'd watched Elena cry on their daughter's birthday.
For eleven years, he'd believed the baby had died.
And now Aldo was telling him she'd lived.
“Where is she?”
Aldo looked up.
“Dominic—”
“WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER?”
The shout shook the room.
Aldo flinched.
