Chapter 6 - The Boardroom ReckoningThe following morning at 9:00 AM, the 50th-floor boardroom of DeLuca Global Headquarters in the Loop was packed with twelve senior board directors and institutional shareholders.

The morning headlines had dominated every major news network in North America: ‘Billionaire Luca DeLuca Reclaims Stolen Heiress at High-Society Gala; Sterling and Vance Dynasties Face Total Collapse.’
Carmela DeLuca sat at the end of the long glass table, dressed in black, flanked by her private estate attorneys. Across from her sat Luca, looking rested, formidable, and clad in a dark charcoal suit. Beside Luca sat Maren, wearing an elegant cream silk blazer, holding a folder containing eight years of forensic accounting ledgers.
“This board meeting was called to address the unauthorized restructuring of corporate trust allocations,” Carmela’s lawyer began nervously. “Mrs. DeLuca contends that allocating 40% of the primary trust to a minor child without prior board consultation violates the 2015 governance charter.”
Luca tapped his tablet. The massive high-definition monitors on the boardroom walls flickered to life, displaying:
Certified DNA confirmation reports proving Wren DeLuca’s maternity and paternity with 99.999% certainty.
The 2016 hospital wire transfers proving Victoria Vance had attempted to bribe and threaten Maren.
Bank audit trails showing Carmela DeLuca had embezzled $14 million from the DeLuca Charitable Foundation to subsidize Victoria Vance’s failing fashion retail startup in Paris.
Gasps rippled across the room. Several senior board members turned their heads away from Carmela in disgust.
“For eight years, my mother used corporate charity funds to purchase Victoria’s silence and orchestrate a fraudulent corporate merger,” Luca announced with absolute authority. “Under Section 9 of the Delaware Corporate Code, this constitutes systematic breach of fiduciary duty and statutory embezzlement.”
Lead Director Thomas Sterling (no relation to Arthur Sterling) leaned forward, his face stern. “What is the executive recommendation, Mr. DeLuca?”
“Mrs. Carmela DeLuca is removed as Chair Emeritus effective immediately,” Luca declared. “Her trust stipends are frozen until the full $14 million is repaid to the Children’s Hospital Foundation. And Maren Vance-Cole is appointed Managing Director of the DeLuca Philanthropic Endowment.”
The vote was unanimous: twelve in favor, zero opposed.
Carmela looked at her son, her hands trembling as she realized she had lost every shred of power she had wielded for forty years.

“Luca... you are destroying your own family,” Carmela whispered, a tear escaping her eye.
“No, Mother,” Luca answered gently, looking at Maren. “I am finally building one.”
