Chapter 5 - Victoria’s Desperate ClawsWhile guests were ushered into the secondary banquet room under the direction of DeLuca security, Luca led Maren and Wren into the private VIP executive suite overlooking the ballroom.

Wren was sitting on a plush velvet sofa, wrapped in a dry cashmere blanket, sipping warm hot chocolate that the executive chef had personally delivered. For the first time in hours, a small, shy smile touched her lips as she watched Luca inspect her silver medal and polish the water droplets from its surface.
The heavy mahogany doors flew open. Victoria Vance stormed into the suite, her champagne flute trembling in her hand, followed closely by Carmela DeLuca.
“Luca! You have completely humiliated my family!” Victoria screamed, slamming her purse onto the conference table. “We had an agreement! Our fathers built these corporations together! You cannot throw away a multi-billion-dollar maritime logistics alliance for a former florist and a child from the suburbs!”
Maren stood up, stepping protectively in front of Wren.
“Victoria,” Maren said in a calm, steady voice that made the socialite freeze. “Eight years ago, you visited my mother’s hospital room while she was undergoing chemotherapy. You brought a check for one hundred thousand dollars and told me that if I didn't leave Chicago, Luca’s family would ensure my mother was removed from the experimental treatment trial.”
Luca snapped his head toward Victoria, his eyes widening in monstrous disbelief. “You did what?”
“She’s lying!” Victoria stammered, backing toward the door as Luca stepped forward. “She’s fabricating stories to justify abandoning you!”
“I kept the carbon copy of the bank draft, Victoria,” Maren replied, pulling a small leather notebook from her purse and laying it on the table. “Along with the surveillance audio from the hospital room that my mother’s private nurse recorded. I never cashed your blood money. I worked three jobs to pay for her care until she passed away.”
Luca stared at the document, the veins in his neck bulging with suppressed fury.
“You threatened a dying woman to force Maren away from me,” Luca whispered, his voice vibrating with lethal intensity. “And you let me believe for eight years that the only woman I ever loved had traded our future for cash.”
“Luca, listen to me!” Carmela interjected, her voice shaking with panic. “Victoria did what was necessary for the preservation of the family name! Maren was a nobody! She had no pedigree, no standing—”
“Maren is the mother of my child!” Luca roared, his voice shaking the crystal wall sconces. “And you, Mother, have traded your own grandchild’s first seven years of life for social vanity!”
Luca turned to his Chief Legal Officer, Marcus Hayes, who was standing quietly by the door with a team of corporate auditors.
“Marcus.”
“Yes, Mr. DeLuca?”

“Liquidate all joint equity accounts held between DeLuca Enterprises and the Vance Maritime Group. File a formal civil complaint for tortious interference and extortion against Victoria Vance. And strip my mother of all voting rights on the DeLuca Family Trust immediately.”
Victoria burst into tears, her arrogance completely destroyed as security officers stepped in to escort her off the property.
