Chapter 7 - The Night Julian Returned Home

Julian was released briefly on bail before prosecutors added the homicide-related charges.
He violated every order within twelve hours.
At two in the morning, my home security alarm activated.
Julian had entered through a basement window.
He carried a duffel bag, copies of the trust documents, and a syringe containing sedative medication.
His plan was clear.
Drug me.
Create evidence of instability or self-harm.
Obtain my signature.
Take Daniel.
He did not know the house was empty.
After the first threats, I moved into a secure apartment near the hospital.
Police had installed cameras.
Julian walked through the rooms calling my name.
Then he entered the nursery.
The crib stood empty.
He stared at it for several seconds.
“You stole my son,” he said to the camera.
Police arrested him before he reached the stairs.
The syringe, forged forms, and restraints in his bag eliminated any remaining claim that he wanted to talk.
Bail was revoked.
When detectives asked why he brought restraints, he said I became irrational during emotional episodes.
The house cameras showed only one irrational person.
