Chapter 11 - THE WOMAN THEY TRIED TO SILENCE

I returned to New York with Adrian two days later.
Not because he ordered me.
Because I wanted answers.
We met with an independent attorney.
A woman named Rebecca Shaw.
She reviewed the documents.
Then looked at me.
“Lena, these records suggest you may have a significant ownership interest in the consortium.”
I stared.
“How significant?”
Rebecca hesitated.
“Controlling.”
My breath stopped.
Adrian sat beside me.
He didn't speak.
Rebecca continued.
“There are also indications that your signature was forged on several corporate resolutions.”
I looked down.
My hands shook.
“By my father?”
“Possibly. We need forensic verification.”
I swallowed.
Rebecca leaned forward.
“You have options.”
I looked at her.
“What kind?”
“Civil action. Regulatory complaints. Potential criminal referrals.”
I stared.
For twenty-four years, my father had controlled my life.
Now I had the power to challenge him.
But the thought terrified me.
I looked at Adrian.
He met my eyes.
Then said quietly, “Whatever you decide, it's yours.”
May you like
I swallowed.
And for the first time, I believed him.
