Chapter 10 - THE BETRAYAL INSIDE THE VOLKOV EMPIRE
The betrayal came from Adrian's uncle.
Mikhail Volkov had managed the family's European operations for nearly fifteen years.
He knew every shipping route.
Every offshore account.
Every secret.
And he had been working with my father.
Adrian discovered the connection through financial records recovered from the estate's archives.
Payments.
False contracts.
Shell companies.
All connected to a shipping consortium established by Sofia Vuković.
My mother.
The woman I'd been told was dead.
Adrian stared at the documents.
His face hardened.
“Mikhail.”
I looked at him.
“Your uncle?”
He nodded.
“He's been moving money through your mother's company.”
I swallowed.
“Why?”
Adrian looked at me.
“Because the company legally belongs to you.”
My heart stopped.
“What?”
He turned the document.
There was my name.
LENA SOFIA HART.
I stared.
“My father never told me.”
Adrian's expression darkened.
“He didn't want you to know.”
I looked at the papers.
For years, I'd believed I had nothing of my own.
Now I was staring at evidence that my mother had left me something powerful.
May you like
Something dangerous.
Something people were willing to kill for.
