Chapter 6 - THE BROTHER WHO WANTED THE THRONE

Adrian didn't react immediately.
He stood beside Daniel's bed.
His hands remained at his sides.
But something in his face became colder.
“My brother?”
Daniel nodded.
“Luca.”
I looked between them.
“Who is Luca?”
Adrian answered without looking at me.
“My younger brother.”
Daniel swallowed.
“He's been meeting with the Ferraro family.”
Adrian's jaw tightened.
“The Ferraros are our rivals.”
Daniel nodded.
“They promised him control of the docks.”
Silence.
Then Daniel whispered:
“And they're using the hospital.”
I stared.
“What?”
Daniel looked at me.
“Medical supply shipments. Refrigerated trucks. Nobody checks them closely.”
My stomach tightened.
St. Catherine received dozens of deliveries every week.
Medication.
Equipment.
Laboratory supplies.
Food.
Laundry.
The hospital depended on those trucks.
Adrian looked toward the door.
Then back at Daniel.
“Do you have proof?”
Daniel hesitated.
“Not anymore.”
“What happened?”
“They took my phone.”
Adrian exhaled slowly.
Then looked at me.
“Emma, I need to ask you something.”
I folded my arms.
“If it's about hospital records, the answer is no.”
His mouth twitched.
“I wasn't going to ask.”
“Good.”
He studied me.
“Have you noticed anything unusual around the loading dock?”
I thought about the past week.
Then remembered.
Two refrigerated trucks arriving after midnight.
A supervisor who insisted certain deliveries bypass the normal receiving process.
And a maintenance worker I had never seen before.
My stomach dropped.
“Yes,” I whispered.
May you like
Adrian's expression hardened.
“Then someone may have put you in danger without you knowing.”
