Chapter 4 - THE WOMAN IN SILVER

The woman in the silver dress was named Celia Voss.
Vincent recognized her from the gala photographs.
She was thirty-one.
A private investment adviser.
Beautiful.
Elegant.
And connected to several companies that did business with the Cross syndicate.
Elias Ward placed her photograph on Vincent's desk.
“She arrived with Donovan.”
Vincent stared.
“Relationship?”
“Business partners.”
“What business?”
Elias hesitated.
“Medical logistics.”
Vincent looked up.
“Explain.”
“Celia's company transports specialized pharmaceutical products between research facilities and hospitals.”
Vincent's expression changed.
“Which hospitals?”
Elias opened the file.
“Several. Including Saint Anne's Oncology Center.”
Vincent went still.
Rose Miller's hospital.
Elias continued.
“Celia's company has a contract with a subsidiary of Cross Shipping.”
Vincent leaned back.
For years, he had allowed certain divisions to operate with minimal oversight.
Donovan handled the docks.
Celia handled specialized cargo.
The arrangement had been profitable.
Too profitable.
Now Vincent wondered what had been moving through those containers.
He looked at Elias.
“Preserve every shipping record connected to Celia Voss.”
Elias nodded.
“And Donovan?”
“Remove him from operational authority immediately. Notify counsel and cooperate with the assault investigation.”
Elias studied him.
“You're not handling this internally?”
Vincent's eyes hardened.
“No.”
He looked toward the window.
“For too long, men like Donovan have believed the rules don't apply to them.”
Elias nodded slowly.
“And Celia?”
May you like
Vincent picked up her photograph.
“Find out what she was doing at the hospital.”
