Chapter 12 - THE WOMAN WHO LEARNED TO DREAM AGAIN

Rose Miller's condition improved.

Not miraculously.

Not overnight.

But gradually.

Her doctors adjusted her treatment plan.

She completed another course of therapy.

And for the first time in months, her scans showed encouraging results.

Fay cried when she heard.

Rose smiled.

“Don't start planning my hundredth birthday yet.”

Fay laughed through tears.

“I was thinking ninety-nine.”

Rose grinned.

“Reasonable.”

Meanwhile, Fay enrolled in a nursing prerequisite program.

She worked part-time at a community clinic.

Studied late into the night.

And began building a future she had once believed impossible.

Vincent supported her.

But he didn't control her schedule.

He didn't buy her grades.

He didn't demand that she move back into the estate.

Instead, he brought dinner when she was studying.

Helped her practice medical terminology.

And listened when she was exhausted.

One evening, Fay looked up from her textbook.

“Vincent?”

“Yes?”

“Do you ever regret meeting me?”

He stared.

“What?”

She smiled faintly.

“Your life was probably simpler before that night.”

Vincent considered.

Then shook his head.

“No.”

She looked at him.

He continued.

“My life was quieter.”

He paused.

“But it wasn't better.”

Fay smiled.

He reached for her hand.

“You made me look at things I didn't want to see.”

She laughed.

“That sounds unpleasant.”

“It was.”

He smiled.

“But necessary.”

May you like

Fay leaned against him.

And for the first time, she believed the future might contain more than fear.
