Chapter 6 - THE SHIPMENT THAT NEVER ARRIVED

The breakthrough came from an old shipping manifest.

Eleven years earlier, a refrigerated medical cargo container had left New York under the name of Bennett Biomedical.

Its listed destination was Rotterdam.

But the vessel's route showed an unscheduled stop in Halifax.

The container had been transferred.

Then its tracking record ended.

Dante studied the documents.

His security director, Marco Bellini, stood beside him.

“Who authorized the transfer?”

Marco pointed to a signature.

“Your father's logistics director.”

Dante's jaw tightened.

“Who?”

“Victor Sanz.”

Dante recognized the name.

Sanz had worked for the Moretti organization for twenty-five years.

He was now retired.

Living in Florida.

Dante arranged an interview through counsel.

Sanz initially refused.

Then Marco produced the old shipping records.

The man's expression changed.

“I didn't know what was inside,” Sanz said.

Dante leaned forward.

“Then why did you alter the route?”

“Your father ordered it.”

“Why?”

Sanz looked away.

“He said Bennett needed a problem removed.”

Dante felt cold.

“What problem?”

Sanz swallowed.

“A doctor.”

Dante stared.

“Thomas Carter?”

Sanz closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

The room went silent.

Then Sanz whispered:

“But the doctor wasn't killed.”

Dante leaned forward.

“What?”

“He was taken off the ship in Halifax.”

“By whom?”

Sanz hesitated.

“A private security contractor.”

“Where did they take him?”

Sanz looked at the floor.

“I don't know.”

Dante's hands tightened.

For the first time, there was a possibility Elena's father had survived.

And for the first time, Dante understood that his own family might have helped erase him.
