Chapter 10 - Sunlight on the Marchetti Lawn

Two years later, the golden summer sun bathed the sprawling emerald lawns and blooming cypress gardens of the Marchetti Estate in brilliant, sparkling light.
The cool breeze off the northern hills carried the sweet scent of wild chamomile, roasted artisan chestnuts, and the joyful, unrestrained laughter of children.
Over one hundred guests—former mountain neighbors, veterinary staff, port workers, and true, loyal friends—had gathered on the grand terrace for the opening of the Mateo & Elia Rinaldi Academy of Animal Behavioral Science.
In the center of the manicured lawn, fourteen-year-old Elia was running freely through the grass in her white sneakers, throwing a wooden training baton for a dozen young Cane Corso puppies.
Running effortlessly beside her were Rocco and Ulisse, healthy, strong, and playful, their tails wagging steadily as they leaped through the sunshine.
Under the shaded pergola, a grand banquet table was laden with fresh artisan bread, local cheeses, and chilled sparkling cider.
Aldo Marchetti walked over from the library steps, wearing a comfortable linen shirt and dark trousers, looking relaxed, healthy, and ten years younger. He held two fresh slices of warm brioche, smiling as he watched his daughter play.
"Elia!" Aldo called out warmly.
Elia turned, her face glowing with radiant happiness and vitality. She sprinted across the lawn on her fast feet, with Rocco and Ulisse trotting proudly at her heels, and threw her arms around Aldo’s waist.
"Papa!" Elia beamed, looking up with bright, beautiful brown eyes. "The new litter from the mountain rescue passed their agility tests today!"
Aldo knelt down on the green grass, wrapping his strong, protective arms around his daughter and kissing both of her cheeks. Rocco and Ulisse pressed their enormous heads against both of their shoulders, completing the circle.
"You built a paradise out of the storm, my brave girl," Aldo whispered, his voice rich with boundless fatherly love.
Elia took one of the warm slices of bread from his hand, snapped it cleanly in half, and offered one piece to Rocco and the other to Ulisse, who took them from her fingers with tender, gentle precision.

"We built it together, Papa," Elia smiled softly, leaning her head against his chest.
The dark alleys, the cold rain, the broken latches, and the shadows of betrayal were gone forever. Standing together on the sunlit lawn, surrounded by honor, prosperity, and unconditional love, they were finally whole—a family that would stand strong, bright, and unbreakable for all the years to come.
