Chapter 5 - The Ambush at Warehouse Nine

At 1:30 AM, Warehouse 9 at the Red Hook terminal was illuminated by the flickering yellow light of sodium lamps.
Two unmarked black vans rolled into the loading bay. Jason stepped out, wearing a long charcoal cashmere coat, holding a heavy submachine gun, flanked by six armed mercenaries from the Falcone syndicate.
Tom—my treacherous logistics manager—rushed over from the main office.
“Jason! The explosive charges are set on the fuel tanks!” Tom reported, sweating through his shirt. “Once this building blows, the news will report that the Moretti family executed Victor in a turf war!”
Jason laughed, a cruel, triumphant sound. “Set the five-minute timer. By sunrise, I will be crowned Don of the Five Boroughs.”
“You won't be crowned anything, Jason,” a deep voice boomed from the steel catwalk above.
The industrial floodlights in the rafters snapped on with blinding brilliance.
Standing on the iron platform, flanked by forty elite, heavily armed Black Watch operators with assault rifles locked onto the invaders, was me.
Beside me stood Elena Vance, dressed in tactical black, her sidearm raised and aimed directly at Jason’s forehead.

Jason froze, his jaw dropping in sheer, unadulterated terror. “Uncle Victor...?! You... you were supposed to be dead in the bedroom!”
“You underestimated two things, Jason,” I said, walking slowly down the iron staircase, each step echoing like a funeral march. “You underestimated your father’s love for me. And you underestimated the woman you called ‘just a maid.’”
