Chapter 11 - THE GIRL WHO REMEMBERED EVERYTHING
Daniel Carmichael survived.
He had been held in an abandoned storage facility for nearly three weeks.
Investigators recovered evidence connecting Sofia Moretti and Antonio Bianchi to the kidnapping.
Daniel provided a statement.
He identified several of the people who had guarded him.
He also remembered hearing Sofia argue with a man about the wedding.
“She said Lorenzo would start a war,” Daniel told investigators.
“And then Antonio would take over.”
Amelia sat beside her brother's hospital bed.
She held his hand.
“I'm sorry.”
Daniel looked at her.
“For what?”
“For leaving you there.”
He squeezed her hand.
“You didn't know where I was.”
Tears filled her eyes.
He continued.
“You did what you thought would keep me alive.”
Amelia began crying.
Daniel smiled weakly.
“Besides, you're terrible at following instructions.”
She laughed through tears.
