Chapter 11 - THE BETRAYAL AT THE DERBY GALA

The Kentucky Derby gala was Blake Fenwick's biggest night.
He had invited investors.
Politicians.
Developers.
And half of Louisville society.
Delaney Pierce stood beside him wearing a diamond necklace worth more than my shop.
They looked perfect.
Until I walked in.
Not alone.
Caleb Rowe stood beside me.
The room went quiet.
Blake froze.
“Nora?”
I smiled.
“Hello, Blake.”
His eyes moved toward Caleb.
Then widened.
“Mr. Rowe.”
Caleb nodded.
“Fenwick.”
Delaney looked uncomfortable.
I approached the investors' table.
Placed a folder in front of them.
Blake's expression changed.
“What is that?”
I smiled.
“Documentation.”
He stared.
I continued.
“Records showing how certain construction contracts were manipulated.”
Delaney's father went pale.
Caleb stepped forward.
“These records have also been provided to investigators.”
Silence.
Blake looked at me.
“You're trying to destroy me.”
I shook my head.
“No.”
I met his eyes.
“You did that yourself.”
Then I turned toward Delaney.
She looked frightened.
For a moment, I almost felt sorry for her.
Then I remembered something.
She hadn't stolen Blake from me.
Blake had chosen to leave.
And I had chosen to stop chasing him.
I smiled faintly.
May you like
“Good evening.”
Then I walked away.
