Chapter 8 - THE SECRET IN ALEXANDER'S EMPIRE
The investigation uncovered another problem.
Vanessa's father, Richard Blake, had been using several Moretti companies to conceal fraudulent transactions.
The proposed marriage would have given him greater influence over the business network.
Alexander stared at the evidence.
His relationship with Vanessa had begun as an affair.
But the people around them had treated it as an opportunity.
Teresa wanted a socially advantageous daughter-in-law.
Richard wanted access to business assets.
Vanessa wanted the position she believed belonged to her.
And Alexander had been too arrogant to see that everyone was using his marriage for their own purposes.
He sat alone in his office.
For the first time, he understood that the destruction of his family had begun with his own betrayal.
Not with Vanessa.

Not with Teresa.
With him.
