Chapter 13 - THE WOMAN WHO CHOSE HERSELF
Six months after the canceled wedding, Claire received a job offer.
A senior creative director position in Seattle.
The salary was excellent.
The work was exciting.
And it was exactly the opportunity she'd dreamed about.
She told Alexander.
He listened.
Then asked, “Do you want it?”
She nodded.
“Yes.”
He smiled faintly.
“Then take it.”
Claire stared.
“You're not going to ask me to stay?”
Alexander shook his head.
“No.”
She looked at him.
“Why?”
He swallowed.
“Because loving you doesn't give me the right to decide your future.”
Her eyes filled.
Alexander continued.
“I'll work with our attorneys to make sure the children can maintain a relationship with both of us.”
Claire looked down.
For years, she'd feared that Alexander would use his power to control her.
