Chapter 12 - THE PRICE OF BECOMING A FATHER

Alexander began changing his life.
He cooperated with investigators regarding Richard Blake's fraudulent activities.
He separated legitimate businesses from criminal operations.
And he accepted that his past choices could have serious legal and financial consequences.
But the most important changes were smaller.
He learned Oliver's favorite breakfast.
Emma's bedtime routine.
The names of their preschool teachers.
He attended pediatric appointments when Claire invited him.
He learned how to braid Emma's hair.
Badly.
Then better.
He learned that Oliver hated peas.
That Emma loved yellow rain boots.
And that both children believed dinosaurs should be allowed in restaurants.
One evening, Claire watched Alexander sit on the floor helping Oliver build a cardboard castle.
Emma climbed into his lap.
Alexander smiled.
For the first time, Claire saw something she'd never expected.
Not the mafia boss.
May you like
Not the man who had broken her heart.
A father.
