Chapter 13 - THE FALL OF THE VALE EMPIRE

The investigation lasted nearly a year.
Graham Vale faced charges related to fraud, conspiracy, and obstruction.
Evidence showed that he had manipulated corporate accounts, forged authorizations, and attempted to gain control of Bennett Harbor's assets to cover his losses.
The video from Pier Nine also became central to the investigation into Thomas Bennett's death.
Marissa admitted helping Graham obtain access to confidential records.
Her cooperation reduced some of the uncertainty surrounding the case, but it did not erase her responsibility.
Adrian also faced consequences.
He acknowledged his role in approving unauthorized documents and accepted legal and financial penalties.
His companies were restructured.
Independent oversight replaced the old network of personal favors.
Some businesses were sold.
Others closed.
The empire he had once considered untouchable became smaller.
But for the first time, its future was no longer built on intimidation.
Claire testified about the forged documents.
The threats.
The medical petition.
And the fear of losing her child.
She spoke clearly.
Without exaggeration.
Without revenge.
When asked why she had fought so hard, she answered:
"Because my son deserves to grow up knowing that nobody has the right to take away another person's choices simply because they have more money or power."
Adrian sat quietly during her testimony.
He did not look away.
Afterward, he approached her outside the courthouse.
"Claire."
She turned.
He looked older.
Less polished.
More human.
"You were incredible."
She smiled faintly.
"Thank you."
He hesitated.
"I know I don't deserve another chance."
Claire looked at him.
"Then don't ask for one today."
He nodded.
"I won't."
She walked toward her car.
Then stopped.
"Adrian?"
He turned.
"Keep being the father Thomas needs."
His eyes filled.
"I will."
May you like
Claire nodded.
"That's where you start."
