Chapter 6 - THE NIGHT SOPHIE DISAPPEARED
Emily's phone rang at 9:17 p.m.
She was folding laundry in the staff quarters.
The caller was Sophie's roommate.
“Emily?”
Something in her voice made Emily sit down.
“What happened?”
“Have you heard from Sophie?”
Emily frowned.
“No. Why?”
“She didn't come back from her clinical placement.”
Emily stood.
“What?”
“She left the hospital at six. She said she was going to meet someone about a scholarship.”
Emily's stomach dropped.
“What scholarship?”
“I don't know.”
Emily grabbed her coat.
She called Sophie.
No answer.
Again.
No answer.
She sent a message.
Sophie, call me now.
Nothing.
Emily hurried toward the main house.
Alexander was in his study when she arrived.
He looked up.
“Emily?”
Her face was pale.
“My sister is missing.”
Alexander stood immediately.
“What happened?”
Emily explained.
He listened.
Then reached for his phone.
“Daniel, I need you here.”
Emily shook her head.
“Mr. Whitmore, I don't want to cause trouble.”
Alexander looked at her.
“Your sister may be in danger.”
Tears filled her eyes.
He softened his voice.
“We're going to call the police and give them everything we know.”
Emily nodded.
Then her phone vibrated.
A message from an unknown number.
Tell Whitmore to stop asking questions.
Emily stopped breathing.

Another message appeared.
Or your sister won't come home.
