Chapter 11 - THE FALL OF THE FERRARO QUEEN

Bianca's foundation became the center of a major financial investigation.
Auditors uncovered years of questionable payments.
Several grants had been diverted through consulting contracts.
Some organizations had received only a fraction of the money promised.
Bianca denied wrongdoing.
She blamed accountants.
Advisers.
Former employees.
Anyone except herself.
But records showed she had approved key transactions.
Trevor Ashford had arranged several of the consulting agreements.
The scandal spread through New York society.
The same people who had laughed at Haven in Bianca's ballroom now avoided Bianca at charity events.
Philippe refused to intervene on her behalf.
When she confronted him, she was furious.
“You're letting them destroy me.”
He looked at her.
“You made your choices.”
“I'm your father's widow.”
“Yes.”
“You owe me loyalty.”
Philippe's expression hardened.
“Loyalty isn't the same as protecting wrongdoing.”
Bianca stared.
Then she whispered:
“You've changed.”
Philippe nodded.
“I have.”
She looked toward the family portraits.
“All because of that waitress.”
Philippe's voice became quiet.
“No.”
He stepped closer.
“Because my sister died trying to expose something you helped conceal.”
Bianca's face drained of color.
“And because I finally stopped confusing family loyalty with silence.”
He turned away.
Bianca remained standing in the library.
For the first time, the house felt enormous.
And empty.
Months later, Bianca and Trevor faced criminal proceedings connected to the fraud.
The investigation into Alessia's death continued separately, with authorities examining newly uncovered evidence.
Philippe did not celebrate.

He had lost too much for victory to feel simple.
But he no longer had to pretend the truth was unknowable.
