Chapter 8 - THE MAN WHO FOLLOWED HER HOME

Diane noticed the gray sedan on a Thursday evening.

It was parked across from her apartment building.

She had seen it before.

Twice that week.

At first, she told herself she was imagining things.

Then the car followed her when she walked to the grocery store.

She turned down a different street.

The sedan followed.

Her heart began pounding.

She entered a pharmacy and called Marcus.

"Someone's following me."

His voice changed.

"Where are you?"

She gave him the address.

"Stay inside. Call the police."

Diane obeyed.

Twenty minutes later, officers arrived.

The sedan had disappeared.

Marcus arrived shortly afterward.

He looked concerned.

"Are you okay?"

Diane nodded.

"Who was it?"

"We don't know yet."

She stared.

"Is this because of the charity investigation?"

Marcus hesitated.

"Possibly."

Diane looked toward the street.

Then whispered:

"I have a little sister."

Marcus nodded.

"I know."

"She can't get hurt because of this."

Marcus's expression softened.

"We'll do everything we can to help you stay safe."

That night, Diane arranged for Sadi to stay with a trusted neighbor while she spoke with investigators.

She provided details about Pike.

Catherine.

The suspicious payment forms.

And the gray sedan.

The next morning, police identified the vehicle.

It was registered to a private security contractor connected to Richard Voss.

Diane stared at the report.

Catherine's revenge had become something much more dangerous.
