Chapter 6 - THE LITTLE GIRL WHO ASKED THE WRONG QUESTION

Sadi Harper had never met Ravi Greedy.

She knew only that Diane had been worried since the charity ball.

One evening, Diane came home carrying groceries.

Sadi was sitting at the kitchen table with a school project.

"What's that?" Diane asked.

"A family tree."

Diane smiled.

"Need help?"

Sadi shook her head.

"I already finished."

Diane looked down.

The page showed their parents.

Then Diane.

Then Sadi.

And beside them, a small drawing of a man in a black suit.

Diane frowned.

"Who's that?"

Sadi smiled.

"The man who helped you."

Diane froze.

"What man?"

Sadi pointed.

"The one who sent the dentist information."

Diane stared.

"What dentist information?"

Sadi handed her an envelope.

Inside was a list of clinics offering payment plans and financial assistance for children.

There was no note.

No signature.

Diane felt anger rise.

She immediately called Marcus.

"Did Ravi send this?"

Marcus hesitated.

"Yes."

Diane closed her eyes.

"Tell him I didn't ask for charity."

Marcus remained calm.

"He knows."

"Then why?"

"Because he heard your sister needed help."

Diane looked toward Sadi.

The girl was drawing flowers around the family tree.

Diane lowered her voice.

"Tell him not to involve my sister."

Marcus paused.

Then said:

"I'll tell him."

The next morning, Ravi called Diane personally.

"I apologize."

She stared at the phone.

"What?"

"I should have asked before sending the information."

Diane was silent.

Ravi continued.

"Your sister is not part of this."

Diane exhaled.

"Thank you."

Then Sadi called from the kitchen.

"Diane! The pancakes are burning!"

Ravi heard her.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then he said:

"Go save breakfast."

Diane almost laughed.

"Goodbye, Mr. Greedy."

"Goodbye, Miss Harper."

After the call, Ravi remained seated in his office.

He had not expected a woman who feared him to demand boundaries.

He had not expected to respect her for it.
