Chapter 14 - THE GIRL WHO SAVED HIS HEART

Two years after the charity ball, Ravi attended a small school science fair.

He stood near the back of the room wearing a plain jacket.

Beside him was Diane.

Sadi had built a model of the human heart.

It was made from cardboard, plastic tubing, and a small battery-powered pump.

She explained how blood moved through the chambers.

Ravi listened with genuine interest.

When she finished, he applauded.

Sadi grinned.

"Did you understand it?"

Ravi smiled.

"Most of it."

She laughed.

"I can explain it again."

Diane watched them.

Sadi had once been a frightened child who worried about bills and crooked teeth.

Now she spoke confidently in front of her classmates.

After the fair, they went to dinner.

Sadi sat between them.

"Ravi?"

"Yes?"

"Are you going to marry Diane?"

Diane nearly dropped her glass.

"Sadi!"

The girl shrugged.

"What? I'm curious."

Ravi looked at Diane.

Then smiled.

"That's something Diane and I would have to decide together."

Sadi considered.

"Okay."

Then she added:

"But if you do, I want to be the flower girl."

Diane laughed.

Ravi smiled.

"Noted."
