Chapter 15 - THE KISS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Three years after Diane Harper kissed Ravi Greedy for $10,000, she stood in a garden beneath a canopy of white flowers.
She wore a simple ivory dress.
Her hair fell in soft waves over her shoulders.
And her hands trembled.
Not from fear.
From happiness.
Sadi stood beside her wearing a pale pink dress.
Now thirteen years old, she was taller, more confident, and still determined to become a doctor.
"You look beautiful," Sadi whispered.
Diane smiled.
"So do you."
Sadi hugged her.
"Mom and Dad would be happy."
Diane's eyes filled.
"I think so too."
At the end of the garden aisle stood Ravi.
He wore a dark suit.
No entourage surrounded him.
No armed guards stood beside the flowers.
He looked nervous.
Diane had never seen him nervous before.
When she reached him, he took her hands.
"Three years ago," he whispered, "you kissed me without asking."
Diane laughed through tears.
"I know."
He smiled.
"And I behaved terribly."
"You did."
He nodded.
"But you taught me something."
Diane looked at him.
"That love isn't control."
He swallowed.
"It's trust."
The ceremony was small.
Family.
Friends.
People who had stood beside them through difficult years.
When the officiant asked Ravi whether he took Diane as his wife, he answered without hesitation.
"I do."
When Diane was asked the same question, she smiled.
"I do."
The officiant pronounced them married.
Ravi looked at Diane.
Then, with a smile, asked:
"May I kiss my wife?"
Diane laughed.
"Yes."
He kissed her.
The guests cheered.
Sadi threw flower petals into the air.
And somewhere in the crowd, Marcus Hale smiled.
Later that evening, Diane stood beside Ravi beneath the garden lights.
She thought about the night of the charity ball.
The envelope.
The fear.
The humiliation.
She had believed that kiss might destroy her life.
Instead, it had forced her into a world where she learned the value of boundaries, courage, and choosing love freely.
Ravi took her hand.
"What are you thinking?"
Diane smiled.
"That I once kissed you for money."
He laughed.
"And now?"
She looked into his eyes.
"Now I kiss you because I want to."
Ravi smiled.
"That's worth more than ten thousand dollars."
Diane laughed.
"Much more."
They stood together beneath the stars.
And for the first time in years, Diane Harper no longer counted the days until the next bill.

She counted the moments she was grateful to be alive.
Because sometimes the most unexpected beginning leads to the most beautiful ending.
