Chapter 7 - THE WOMAN WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD
The woman in the red coat appeared again.
This time, she approached Khloe outside Evelyn's office.
“My name is Lena Ortiz.”
Khloe stepped backward.
“I don't know you.”
“I know.”
Lena glanced toward the street.
“I worked for Meridian Security.”
Khloe froze.
“What do you want?”
“To tell you Jared isn't the person running this.”
“Then who is?”
Lena hesitated.
“Someone inside Dante Varga's organization.”
Khloe stared.
Lena explained that she had helped investigate suspicious insurance claims two years earlier.
Her supervisor discovered evidence of staged cargo thefts.
He disappeared.
Lena was threatened.
She faked her own death after a staged vehicle accident and went into hiding.
Now she had returned because the laundering network was expanding.
“Why contact me?”
“Because you found Northstar.”
Khloe swallowed.
Lena handed her a sealed envelope.
“Give this to your lawyer.”
“What's inside?”
“A name.”
Khloe opened the envelope later with Evelyn.
Inside was a photograph of Adrian Cole.
Dante's most trusted adviser.
