Chapter 12 - THE TRUTH ABOUT DANIEL
Daniel was arrested six days later.
Investigators had uncovered financial records linking him to Victor Sloane.
He had provided information about Adrienne's attendance at the Holston Hotel.
He had also helped arrange access to the service corridors.
When confronted, Daniel claimed he hadn't known anyone would be hurt.
He insisted the plan was only to frighten Adrienne.
But the evidence told a different story.
He had accepted money.
Provided schedules.
And concealed his involvement.
When I learned the truth, I sat alone in the library.
Adrienne found me there.
He didn't speak.
He simply sat beside me.
After a long silence, I whispered:
“I used to think Daniel was the worst thing that ever happened to me.”
Adrienne looked at me.
I continued.
“But he taught me something.”
“What?”
I smiled sadly.
“That I can survive being underestimated.”
