Chapter 10 - THE NIGHT ELIZABETH DISAPPEARED

The kidnapping attempt happened two nights later.
I had returned to Lakeshore Community College to collect papers from my office.
Adrienne had arranged security.
I knew the risks.
But I refused to stop living my life.
At seven forty-three, the hallway lights flickered.
Then went out.
I froze.
A man stepped from the stairwell.
Gray jacket.
Silver ring.
Victor Sloane.
My heart stopped.
“Elizabeth.”
I backed away.
He smiled.
“Don't make this difficult.”
I turned and ran.
He followed.
I reached the emergency exit.
Pushed through.
And sprinted into the parking garage.
Footsteps thundered behind me.
Then a car door opened.
Someone grabbed my arm.
I screamed.
A voice shouted:
“LET HER GO!”
Marco.
The garage erupted into chaos.
Security officers rushed forward.
Victor fled.
I stumbled backward.
Then collapsed against a concrete pillar.
Marco knelt beside me.
“Elizabeth.”
I was shaking.
“I'm okay.”
He looked at me.
“Are you hurt?”
I shook my head.
May you like
Then whispered:
“Call Adrienne.”
