Chapter 10 - Sunlight on a New Dawn

One year later.
The summer sun cast a warm golden light across the backyard of our new home in Madison, Wisconsin.
We had sold the old house and moved to a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood close to the lake, leaving every shadow of the past behind.
Eight-year-old Lily was running through the grass in a bright yellow sundress, laughing joyfully as she chased our new golden retriever puppy, Barnaby. Nearby, eighteen-month-old Noah was happily waddling across the lawn, holding a small wooden airplane and giggling as Barnaby playfully licked his cheek.
I sat on the wooden deck with a glass of iced tea, watching my children thrive under open, clear skies.
Lily had completely recovered from her physical strain. Through weekly art therapy and a stable, loving environment, her bright spirit had returned tenfold. She was at the top of her third-grade class, full of curiosity, confidence, and warmth.
"Daddy! Look!" Lily shouted, running up the deck steps and holding up a colorful drawing of our family: me, Lily, Noah, and Barnaby standing beneath a massive smiling sun.
"It's beautiful, Lily," I smiled, pulling her into a warm hug and lifting Noah onto my lap.
"Daddy?" Lily asked softly, leaning her head against my chest.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"I love our new home," she whispered. "Nobody turns off the lights here."
I kissed her forehead, feeling the steady, miraculous warmth of my children's laughter echoing across the garden.

"Nobody turns off the lights here, Lily," I promised, looking up at the endless blue sky. "The lights are staying on forever."
