Chapter 9 - THE TRUTH HER FATHER NEVER HEARD

The revelation changed everything.
Richard Vale had allegedly diverted money through healthcare investment entities while hospital services deteriorated.
Samuel Ellison had identified irregularities.
Instead of investigating the allegations, senior administrators had turned suspicion toward Samuel.
The original audit was suppressed.
Samuel lost his position.
And Richard continued building his business empire.
Mara listened to the account without speaking.
She had spent nearly twenty years believing her father had died under the weight of disgrace.
Now she understood he may have been punished for telling the truth.
Dominic sat beside her.
“I didn't know.”
Mara looked at him.
“I believe you.”
He exhaled.
“But you should have asked more questions before using my name.”
Dominic nodded.
“Yes.”
She stared at her father's photograph.
“He used to tell me that medicine wasn't about being important.”
Dominic listened.
“He said it was about being useful when someone was frightened.”
Mara's voice broke.
“I thought he'd failed.”
Dominic reached toward her hand.
Then stopped.
He waited.
Mara looked at him.
After a moment, she let him hold it.
The investigation expanded.
Evelyn Price coordinated with appropriate legal authorities.
Records were preserved.
Witnesses were interviewed.
Julian's statements required corroboration.
Richard Vale's alleged conduct would need to be established through evidence, not accusation alone.
But the trail was there.
Financial transfers.
Board correspondence.
Archived meeting minutes.
And a surviving copy of Samuel Ellison's preliminary findings.
Mara read the report late one night.
At the bottom of the final page was her father's signature.
The downward hook matched her own.
She touched the paper.
Then cried.
Not because the past had been repaired.
May you like
It couldn't be.
But because someone had finally found the truth he had tried to leave behind.
