Weston arrived at the hospital with two security professionals.
He did not threaten anyone.
He did not demand access to restricted areas.
He spoke with hospital security and provided contact information for his attorney.
Laurel watched him carefully.
“You're being unusually cooperative.”
He looked at her.
“Would you prefer I start a fight?”
“No.”
“Then we're making progress.”
She almost smiled.
But the fear remained.
Later, in a quiet conference room, Weston told her something unexpected.
“I've been reviewing my family's old operations.”
Laurel looked up.
“And?”
“There were illegal shipments.”
She stared.
“You knew?”
“Some. Not all.”
“Did my father know?”
“I believe he discovered something significant.”
Laurel's hands tightened.
Weston continued.
“My father protected the business at any cost.”
“And you?”
He looked at her.
“For years, I protected the family name.”
Laurel waited.
“Now I'm trying to protect the truth.”
She studied him.
“That's going to cost you.”
