Damen didn't retaliate immediately.
He wanted to.
Every instinct screamed for violence.
But Serena stopped him.
"If you go after them like that, our son loses his father."
Damen stared at her.
She continued.
"They've already taken eight months from us."
Her eyes filled.
"Don't give them the rest of our lives."
He closed his eyes.
Then nodded.
Instead, Damen contacted his attorney.
A former federal prosecutor named Adrian Cole.
He provided the recording.
Financial documents.
And testimony from Alessandra.
The investigation widened.
Vittorio and Carlo had used the proposed marriage to consolidate control over several businesses.
They had also arranged Serena's disappearance to remove what they saw as a threat to their plans.
But the evidence revealed something else.
The man who helped Serena escape had been working against them.
His name was Gabriel Russo.
He had secretly recorded the conversation because he knew Vittorio intended to kill Serena.
