Chapter 3 - The Signature on the Foreclosure Writ

The silence on the yacht was so absolute you could hear the champagne fizzing in the forgotten flutes.
Eleanor stepped forward, clutching her pearl necklace, her eyes darting between Kira’s navy suit and my stained linen dress. “Madam... President? What kind of ridiculous prank is this? Julian, tell security to throw this rude woman off our boat!”
Julian stammered, looking at Kira’s credentials pinned to her lapel. “Kira Marquez? You’re... you’re the managing partner of Vantage Capital? The sovereign fund that bought out our corporate debt facility?”
“I am Chief Legal Counsel to Vantage Capital,” Kira replied smoothly. “And the woman your mother just assaulted is Sienna Vance—sole founder, primary trustee, and Chief Executive Officer of Vantage Capital and Sovereign Trust.”
Charles Richardson stopped breathing. The color drained from his weathered face until he looked like wet concrete. “Vance...? As in... Vance Global Maritime & Asset Management?”
“The very same,” I said calmly, stepping forward.
I took the Montblanc pen Kira handed me. I rested the blue-backed legal folio on the teak dining table beside Eleanor’s spilled cocktail.
“Let’s review the ledger, Charles,” I said, turning the pages of the certified audit. “Six months ago, Hawthorne Leisure was facing catastrophic default on its $42 million commercial credit lines. You took a mezzanine loan from Sovereign Trust at twelve percent, personally securing it with this yacht, your Manhattan brownstone, and your waterfront estate in Newport.”
Charles began to sweat through his linen shirt. “Sienna... please. We had an arrangement with the loan committee! We were restructuring!”
“The restructuring agreement had a strict moral conduct and solvency acceleration clause,” Kira noted with razor-sharp precision. “Under Subsection 9-B, any material misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment of assets, or physical endangerment of a trust principal triggers immediate full acceleration and unconditional repossession without a cure period.”
I looked into Eleanor’s wide, terrified eyes.
“You told me service staff belongs below deck, Eleanor,” I whispered. “You told me not to get the furniture wet.”
I pressed the pen to the paper and signed my name with three sharp strokes: Sienna Vance, Managing Trustee.

I handed the folder back to Kira.
“This vessel is now the property of Vantage Capital,” I announced to the twelve frozen socialites on the deck. “Captain Miller, turn this ship around and head back to Pier 54. This party is over.”
