Chapter 7 - THE ACCOUNT IN MY DAUGHTER'S NAME

The financial investigation uncovered something I hadn't expected.
Graham had opened an investment account using documents associated with our unborn daughter.
The account was presented as part of an estate-planning structure.
But its actual purpose was unclear.
My attorney brought the documents to our meeting.
“Madeline, did you authorize this?”
I stared.
“No.”
“Did you sign these forms?”
I shook my head.
“Absolutely not.”
She nodded.
“We suspected as much.”
I looked at the account statements.
Money had moved through several entities.
Some transactions appeared connected to Bennett Maritime.
Others were linked to Halcyon Capital.
The structure was complicated.
Deliberately so.
I felt sick.
“He used our baby?”
My attorney chose her words carefully.
“It appears he attempted to use an account designated for her benefit as part of a broader financial arrangement.”
I stared.
The room seemed to shrink.
For weeks, Graham had accused me of failing to think about our daughter.
Now I was looking at documents suggesting he'd used her name in a financial scheme.
I placed a hand over my stomach.
Then looked at my attorney.
“Can we stop it?”
“We're seeking emergency relief and preservation of records.”
I nodded.
“And Graham?”
She met my eyes.
“We're preparing to notify the appropriate authorities.”
I looked down at the documents.
My husband had betrayed me.
But this was different.
May you like
He had tried to turn our daughter's future into another instrument of control.
And I would not allow it.
