Financial records were preserved.
The disputed signatures were examined.
Board members were interviewed.
Natalie cooperated through her attorney.
And Graham's explanations began to unravel.
He had relied on charm for years.
But charm couldn't change documents.
It couldn't erase financial transfers.
And it couldn't make forged signatures authentic.
The board removed him from his executive responsibilities pending the outcome of the investigation.
Halcyon suspended the acquisition.
Several of Graham's business associates distanced themselves from him.
Then authorities announced charges connected to the alleged financial misconduct.
Graham's attorney issued a statement denying wrongdoing.
But the evidence continued to develop.
I watched the news from my sister's living room.
My stomach was enormous.
My feet were swollen.
And my daughter kicked every time I tried to sit comfortably.
The television showed Graham leaving a courthouse.
He looked exhausted.
