Chapter 10 - THE SECRET NATALIE HAD KEPT
Natalie contacted my attorney with another disclosure.
She had discovered that Graham maintained a separate relationship with a senior executive at Halcyon Capital.
The executive had helped structure the proposed acquisition.
And according to Natalie, the two had discussed using my pregnancy and impending maternity leave as an opportunity to push through the transaction.
The plan relied on my absence from day-to-day business.
My trust in Graham.
And the assumption that I wouldn't question documents presented as routine financial matters.
Natalie provided emails and meeting records.
My attorney reviewed them.
Then contacted me.
“Madeline, this changes things.”
I sat down.
“How?”
“It suggests the transaction may have involved coordinated misconduct.”
I closed my eyes.
For a moment, I felt exhausted.
Then I thought about my father.
The company he'd built.
The employees who depended on it.
And my daughter, who would one day ask what happened.
