Chapter 9 - Rebuilding the Light

In the months that followed, our home underwent a total transformation.

I had the old garden hedges and the patio completely redesigned. The rusted cage was hauled to a metal recycling plant and crushed into scrap metal. In its place, we built a magnificent cedar treehouse with a bright yellow slide, surrounded by blooming lavender and white rose gardens.

With the help of a world-renowned audio restoration lab in New York, we recovered the digital audio core from the mangled voice box inside Barnaby the bear.

Clara’s voice was cleaned of all static, restored to crystalline perfection, and transferred into a new, custom-sewn blue plush bear crafted from Clara's favorite cashmere blanket.

When I handed the new bear to Noah on his sixth birthday, his eyes widened with wonder. He pressed the bear's paw.

“Goodnight, my sweet Noah... Mommy loves you to the moon and back, forever and ever...”

Noah clutched the bear to his chest, tears spilling over his cheeks—not tears of fear, but of profound, radiant peace.

"Mommy's song is back, Daddy," he whispered, burying his face in the soft blue fur.

"Yes, buddy," I smiled, wrapping my arms around him. "Mommy's song will never go away again."
