Noah saw Victor two days later.
We were leaving the grocery store when my son suddenly stopped.
“Mommy.”
I looked down.
“What, sweetheart?”
He pointed across the parking lot.
“That man.”
My stomach tightened.
Victor Hale stood beside a black SUV.
He was speaking on the phone.
I froze.
Noah tugged my sleeve.
“He came to Daddy's house.”
My heart stopped.
“What?”
Noah nodded.
“He brought the robot.”
I stared.
“Are you sure?”
He nodded.
“Yes.”
I swallowed.
Then asked, “When?”
Noah thought for a moment.
“Before Daddy left.”
My blood ran cold.
I took Noah's hand.
Walked quickly toward our car.
Then called my lawyer.
By the time I reached home, police had been notified.
I realized the robot hadn't simply been a toy.

It had been used to move evidence.
And my son had been carrying it without anyone knowing.
