Chapter 3 - The Stolen Two-Million-Dollar Legacy

================================================================================

By 8:00 PM, the guest suite had been completely transformed.

Three portable cribs had been delivered by an emergency courier from a luxury children’s boutique, alongside stacks of soft fleece onesies, organic baby food, and warm infant blankets.

Leo, Maya, and Lucas lay sleeping peacefully in their cribs, their bellies full of warm milk, their small faces rosy and calm.

Olivia sat in a plush armchair beside the cribs, wearing a clean, oversized sweater Mrs. Gable had given her. She held a warm mug of chamomile tea with both hands, staring at the floorboards.

Caleb walked into the room, pulling up a wooden chair opposite her.

“Tell me what happened, Olivia,” Caleb asked gently.

Olivia drew a ragged breath, tears slipping past her lashes. “Eleven months ago, my older sister Sarah and her husband David were killed in a multi-vehicle highway crash caused by a reckless truck driver. Sarah was eight months pregnant with the triplets. The emergency trauma surgeons managed to deliver all three babies through emergency surgery before Sarah passed away.”

Caleb’s jaw tightened.

“David had a two-million-dollar accidental death life insurance policy,” Olivia continued, her voice shaking with quiet devastation. “He designated the funds to establish an educational and living trust for the children, naming me as the primary guardian in the event of their passing.”

“What went wrong?”

“My cousin, Julian Vance,” Olivia whispered. “Julian is a commercial real estate broker. When Sarah died, Julian showed up at the hospital with a private attorney and a set of pre-signed power-of-attorney documents. He claimed that because I was young and unmarried with a modest cleaning job, the state would place the babies in separate foster homes unless I signed over temporary management of the estate to him.”

Caleb’s eyes narrowed into razor-sharp slits. “He stole the trust.”

“He liquidated the insurance payout within four months,” Olivia choked out. “He bought a luxury condominium in Brickell, leased a Porsche, and when I confronted him last week demanding money for the babies’ pediatric vaccines and winter coats... he sent two private security guards to my apartment building. They paid off the landlord, canceled my lease, and threw my suitcases onto the street.”

Caleb sat in absolute silence for five full seconds.

The quiet billionaire who spent his days analyzing corporate acquisitions stood up slowly, the temperature in the room plummeting to freezing point.

“Julian Vance made a very grave miscalculation,” Caleb said softly.

“What do you mean, Mr. Hart?”

“He assumed you had no one in your corner.”
