Chapter 2 - The Penthouse Nursery

================================================================================

Tears welled in Olivia’s tired hazel eyes, tracking down cheeks that were pale from hunger and cold.

“They are my sister’s babies, Mr. Hart,” Olivia whispered, her lips trembling. “Leo, Maya, and Lucas. They’re only nine months old.”

George stepped forward, pulling his heavy wool scarf from his neck and gently draping it over the infants. “My dear child... you are freezing out here. Where is your home?”

Olivia bowed her head, unable to meet their eyes. “We were evicted last night. My landlord changed the locks at eight o'clock. I had nowhere else to go until the shelters opened at five.”

A sudden, sharp anger flared in Caleb’s chest—not directed at Olivia, but at a world that allowed a devoted woman and three helpless infants to sleep on wooden slats in the autumn freeze.

Without another word, Caleb crouched down beside the bench. He reached out and picked up the worn shopping bag with his left hand, then placed his right hand firmly under Olivia’s elbow, helping her stand.

“Caleb?” George asked, smiling with quiet approval.

“Call the building concierge, Dad,” Caleb commanded gently, taking off his tailored cashmere coat and wrapping it securely around Olivia and the three babies. “Tell them to clear the private elevator. We’re taking them upstairs.”

“Mr. Hart, no... I can’t impose on you,” Olivia protested, her voice breaking into soft sobs. “I am just your cleaner—”

“You are a human being under my roof for three years, Olivia,” Caleb replied, his voice firm and unshakable. “And today, nobody in my circle sleeps in the cold.”

Ten minutes later, the private elevator opened directly into Caleb’s four-thousand-square-foot penthouse overlooking the city.

The home was a vast sanctuary of warm hardwood floors, panoramic glass windows, and roaring stone fireplaces. Caleb’s private house manager, Mrs. Gable, rushed to the foyer with warm blankets, organic infant formula, and fresh towels.

While Mrs. Gable helped Olivia bathe and feed the hungry triplets in the master guest suite, Caleb sat with his father in the study.

George took a slow sip of hot tea, looking at his son across the mahogany desk.

“A man can have all the wealth in the world, Caleb,” George said softly. “But his true worth is measured by what he does when he finds someone broken at his gate.”

“I’m calling Marcus,” Caleb said, picking up his phone. “I want to know how three nine-month-old babies ended up on a park bench.”
