Chapter 7 - The Father Who Bought Every Wrong Answer

Patricia’s defense blamed St. Anne’s doctors and portrayed Grace as unstable.
They released private emails showing Grace arguing with me about Noah’s care.
In one, she wrote:
Daniel believes expensive answers are more truthful. He does not listen when fear arrives in ordinary clothing.
The words hurt because they were accurate.
I had ignored Grace’s concerns about St. Anne’s.
Patricia had introduced the clinic through a prestigious donor dinner.
Its reputation impressed me.
Its fees reassured me.
I had confused price with safety.
At trial, I admitted it.
Patricia’s attorney asked, “You approved St. Anne’s treatment?”
“Yes.”
“You signed forms?”
“Yes.”
“You failed to read every page?”
“Yes.”
“So Patricia did not act alone.”
“No. She depended on parents like me being impressed enough not to question her.”
The admission damaged my reputation.
It also made the truth clearer.
Evelyn testified about losing Lily.
Lily testified about the fire, Grace, and the hidden clinics.
Maribel Soto, found living under protection in New Mexico, testified through video.
She described Grace’s final days.
“Her last request was that Daniel believe Noah even if Noah could not speak.”
I cried in court.

For the first time, I did not hide it.
