Chapter 3 - The Camera Outside Room 3908

Room 3908 had been closed for renovation.

Patricia authorized the closure three weeks earlier.

Marcus obtained a master key.

Behind the bathroom mirror, we found a sealed envelope containing medical charts, a memory card, and a small silver necklace shaped like a bird.

The charts belonged to Noah.

They documented treatment he had never received.

According to the records, St. Anne’s had given him a drug called Delpharine after Grace’s death.

I had never approved it.

His physician’s signature was forged.

The memory card contained video from a hidden camera.

Grace appeared in a St. Anne’s office.

She spoke directly into the lens.

“Daniel, if you are seeing this, Patricia has already tried to erase me.”

My knees weakened.

Grace explained that Noah witnessed something on the night she died.

He had been in the back seat of her car.

That detail had been hidden from me.

Police told me Noah had remained with a babysitter.

Grace said she picked him up unexpectedly after receiving a call from someone claiming to know Lily’s location.

A black SUV followed them onto the highway.

Grace’s car left the road.

She was injured but alive.

Noah crawled from the wreck.

A woman reached the scene before paramedics.

Patricia.

She removed Noah and gave him an injection.

“Delpharine can interfere with recent memory,” Grace said in the recording. “It was developed for severe trauma, but St. Anne’s used it to make children unreliable witnesses.”

Grace survived long enough to create the video?

The official report said she died at the scene.

Then the final section played.

Grace looked pale and weak.

“If they tell you I died immediately, they are lying. Patricia moved me to a private medical unit. I escaped long enough to leave this record.”

The video ended.

Evelyn covered her mouth.

“Grace may have been alive after the crash.”

The silver bird necklace belonged to Lily.

She wore it in every childhood photograph.

Someone had accessed Room 3908 recently and planted the evidence.

We reviewed hallway cameras.

A teenage girl wearing a red raincoat entered the room the previous night.

She avoided every visible camera except one.

When she turned, Evelyn began crying.

“Lily.”

Her missing sister was alive.

Now nineteen.

And hiding somewhere inside New York City.
