Chapter 6 - THE BROTHER WHO CAME BACK

Norah received a phone call at eleven forty-seven that night.

Unknown number.

She almost ignored it.

Then answered.

“Hello?”

Silence.

Then a familiar voice.

“Norah?”

Her knees weakened.

“Caleb?”

He began crying.

“I'm sorry.”

She pressed a hand against her mouth.

“Where are you?”

“I can't tell you.”

“Caleb, please.”

His breathing was ragged.

“They're making me do things.”

Norah froze.

“What things?”

“I thought I could pay them back. They said if I worked for them, they'd erase the debt.”

She swallowed.

“What kind of work?”

“Deliveries. Packages. Sometimes phones.”

A pause.

“Then they started asking questions about the Rossy estate.”

Norah's blood ran cold.

“What questions?”

“Security schedules. Kitchen deliveries. Who prepares his food.”

She stopped breathing.

Caleb began sobbing.

“I didn't know what they were planning.”

Norah gripped the phone.

“Where are you?”

Before he could answer, a man's voice sounded in the background.

“Time's up.”

Caleb gasped.

“Norah, don't trust—”

The call ended.

She stared at the screen.

Then ran upstairs.

Vincent was in his study.

She entered without knocking.

Enzo moved toward her.

Vincent raised a hand.

“Let her speak.”

Norah was trembling.

“My brother called.”

Vincent stood.

“What did he say?”

She told him everything.

When she finished, Vincent looked at Enzo.

“Find the call origin.”

Enzo nodded.

Norah stepped closer.

“Please.”

Her voice broke.

“Don't let them hurt him.”

Vincent looked at her.

For a moment, the ruthless boss disappeared.

In his place stood a man who understood what it meant to lose control of his own life.

“We'll do everything we can to bring him home.”

Norah began crying.

Vincent hesitated.

Then offered her a clean handkerchief.

May you like

She took it.

And for the first time, she allowed herself to believe she might not have to face everything alone.
