Chapter 10 - THE GIRL IN THE HOSPITAL CORRIDOR

Norah visited Vincent at the hospital after finishing her shift.

He was sitting beside the window.

A nutritional support plan had begun stabilizing his condition.

He looked exhausted.

But less frighteningly thin.

Norah carried a small paper bag.

Vincent raised an eyebrow.

“What's that?”

“Nothing dangerous.”

He smiled faintly.

She opened the bag.

Inside was a notebook.

The cover was blue.

On the first page, she had written:

MEALS THAT FEEL SAFE

Vincent stared.

Norah sat beside him.

“I thought maybe we could write down the foods that work.”

He looked at her.

“Why?”

“Because you shouldn't have to remember everything when you're scared.”

He swallowed.

She continued.

“Your doctors can help decide what's appropriate. We can keep track of what you tolerate.”

Vincent looked at the notebook.

Then smiled.

“That's a good idea.”

Norah handed him a pen.

He wrote the first entry.

Chicken and rice broth.

Then he paused.

And added:

Made by Norah.

She laughed softly.

“You're supposed to write ingredients, not compliments.”

Vincent smiled.

May you like

“Maybe it's both.”

For the first time in months, he looked hopeful.
